OMAPL138 MMCSD1 Support

Hi Team,

My customer will use EMIFA interface for our FPGA – will stream data from FPGA and store this on a MMCSD card (ie the two have to be used simultaneously).

As MMCSD0 share EMIFA pins we are forced to use MMCSD1.

Can the Linux Kernel in the eXperimenter load the FS (file system image) from MMCSD1 ?

Hi,

If you are using a stock TI release, then the second instance of MMC/SD is not supported out of the box. Please see http://linux.omap.com/pipermail/davinci-linux-open-source/2010-June/019142.html for steps to enable the second MMC/SD instance. Once this support is present then Linux Kernel should be able to load the file system from there.

Thanks for the reply. I think this goes some way to confirm that it can be done so long as the customer is aware the difference between dMax and EDMA controllers.

However, I think the original question is a bit simpler than this, put another way:

My customer is asking:

1.) Is it possible to boot from an MMC/SD card enabled in the second slot?

2.) If so what are the bootargs

3.) Finally, what changes would they need to make to the kernel to enable this?

Ideally it should be possible but the U-Boot and Linux Kernel released from TI do not have support for the 2nd instance of MMC/SD as it cannot be tested on the EVM. It is customer's responsibility to add support for the other instance. If they face any issues during this, they can post the questions back onto this forum.
