SK-AM62A-LP: H.264 Encoding Real-Time Camera

Part Number: SK-AM62A-LP

Tool/software:

Dear Support:

I am needing to encode H.264 real-time HD video from a camera (1080P/720P) using GStreamer on my SK-AM62A-LP.   Is there an HD video camera you can recommend for me to use with this LP?

Also I will need to support H.264 4K video encoding and streaming as well.  Can you advise what EVM and camera would be best recommended for supporting this for customer demos?

Thanks,
Tim

  • Hello Tim,

For HD video, you can use either the IMX219 or IMX390 which are supported by the SDK. They can run at 30fps.

For 4K camera, the IMX219 can run at 3280x2464 and 15fps.

    Regards,

    Jianzhong

  • Hey Jianzhong:

Thanks for the clear recommendation.  Per my understanding, the SK-AM62A-LP can only support 1080P.  For 4K, what EVM do you recommend to perform video capture/encode and decode/display of 4K video assuming I use something like the IMX219 for the camera?

    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Hey Jianzhong:

I've been looking at Amazon and Google sites and way too many options and permutations.  I don't want to buy sometthing that doesn't work and waste a bunch of time and money.  Are there any part numbers for good 2K and 4K cameras that are a known quanity and work OOB with the SK-AM62A-LP (by just plugging in directly with no adapters or modifications) including whatever 4K EVM you recommend I can use for thee cameras?   I appreciate any specifics you can provide.

    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Per my understanding, the SK-AM62A-LP can only support 1080P

Did you mean the display limitation? There is no such limitation on the CSI camera input. For display, you can downscale the resolution from 4K to 1080p.

I think the IMX219 should be sufficient for your purpose. You can buy one from here: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/camera-module-v2/, or this one from Amazon. Both should be able to just plug and play with the SK-AM62A-LP.

  • Hey Jianzhong:

Thanks for your response and recommendation.  From looking at all the different IMX219 camera boards availalble on the internet and there are a lot, with all the different output formats that were referenced, it wasn't clear what board I need to get.  Thanks for making that clear.  I will go with the IMX219 camera board as you recommended.

As for the 4K support, per my understanding, the SK-AM62A-LP only supports up to 1080P, I was needing a reccommendation for an EVM that supports a 4K monitor and has H.264 hardware accelerators that can support the encoding from 4K cameras and decode and display 4K video.  Do we have such an EVM?

    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Hi Tim,

The AM62x family doesn't have any EVM that supports 4K display. Please open a new thread with a Jacinto part about that.

  • Hey Jianzhong:

No problem - thanks for all your help and advice.
