AM623: OpenBMC software support

Part Number: AM623

Tool/software:

A customer plan to do server power monitor, ask if TI has OpenBMC software support, I think it is not.

From the OpenBMC wiki page, it is a Linux distribution, The firmware itself is based on U-Boot, it confused me it is a Linux a U-Boot?

Who is familiar with the OpenBMC concept, please help to provide a overall answer for this request.

If AM62x device can support OpenBMC, what should customer to do to support it on AM62x. how to do it based on TI Yocto SDK?

  • Hi Tony,

I was out of the office last week on timebank.

As you have noticed OpenBMC is a Linux distribution based on Yocto. OpenBMC was prototyped on the AM62x 2 years ago to see what was involved. Another customer has gone through the process of getting OpenBMC on the AM64. What customers want is for a TI meta layer to support TI devices to be added to the OpenBMC repository and maintained. There are two options on which Linux kernel is used, the TI SDK version or the mainline version that is essentially replicated in the OpenBMC repository. Maintaining a TI meta layer and supporting BMC applications is significant and currently does not justify a TI investment in doing so either within TI or using a 3rd party.

    Best Regards,
