AM62P: Reserve 2*16bit LPDDR4

Part Number: AM62P

Tool/software:

Hi TI Experts,

Customer is evaluating our AM62P. As we know we have 32-bit data bus for the DDR subsystem.

Customer wants to know the feasibility of reserve 2*16bit LPDDR4 design on the board, but only attach one 16bit LPDDR4 firstly.

Maybe some years later when they found they need more memory space, they could attach the second 16bit LPDDR4 to expand the memory space.

Could you help comment on the feasibility of doing this?

Many Thanks,

Kevin

  • Hi Kevin, yes this is possible.  The AM62P can operate with just a x16 interface and move to a x32 device.    If they add another x16 channel, they would need to change the DDR configuration in software.

  • Hi James,

    Thanks for your reply!

Based on this point, customer also wants to know if they could configure two different frequency for each x16 bit DDR4/LPDDR4 channel, or they have to keep at the same frequency?

I have searched some information, it seems that technically it is fine, but the overall system will eventually operate at the slowest frequency being set.

May I know your opinion about it?

    Many Thanks,

    Kevin

  • Kevin, there is only one PLL for the DDR subsystem, so the interface can only support one frequency at a time.  You can't have one 16bit channel work at one frequency, and another 16bit channel work at a different frequency.
