hi,experts:

our project is a AVM project, the project pipeline: 4camera-> algorithm->h265encode.

we use Gstreamer to do h265 encoding, this is the pipeline : appsrc -> v4l2h265enc -> fakesink . we found the framerate is about 16. is the encode hardware(Wave5) cost CPU/GPU resource? is there any advice to improve the encode framerate?

Hi z lin,

The Wave5 encoder can encode a 4K stream at 60 fps in real time. I have a pipeline that can take a 4K picture from a CSI-2 sensor @ 30 fps, pass the stream through ISP and LDC, pass it along to the encoder, and stream it with RTP to a UDP multicast address, all without a problem.

Could you check what framerate you get when you pass the appsrc to the fakesink directly? I think that will end up being a framerate of around 16 as well.

Oh, and make sure you set the io-mode of the various elements to dmabuff or dmabuff-import. The encoder will be faster if the memory can be accessed directly with DMA.

Hi Lin,

Can you share the pipeline you are trying to run? Are you saying on your end, you see the FPS to be 16 instead of 60FPS?

There is an actual hardware accelerator on the SOC that's capable of encoding/decoding H.264/H.265 video formats.

this is our pipeline "appsrc ! video/x-raw, width=1920, height=960, format=NV12, framerate=25/1, colorimetry=bt709 ! v4l2h265enc capture-io-mode=4 output-io-mode=4 ! fakesink name=fakesink".

Hi,

I see you have set the framerate=25 in your pipeline. Are you sure that appsrc is receiving data every 40ms?
How did you verify the FPS was 16 instead of 25 as per your current pipeline?
please use fpsdisplaysink element to verify.

Hi,

fpsdisplaysink doesn’t require Display to be connected.

you can specify video-sink=fakesink with fpsdisplaysink and share the logs you see with your pipeline.
