  • Sateesh,

A .out file is the generic name for a binary file that is generated by the linker.  A .coff file (Common Object File Format) specifies a format for a binary file.  If you are using COFF format, a .coff file and a .out file are just two ways of referencing the same thing.  The other object file type that is now supported by the TI Tools is ELF (Executable and Linkable Format)  ELF is more of an industry standard formt.

So, you could have a COFF format .out file or an ELF format .out file.  Be aware though, that these formats are not compatible with each other.  When you are building your project everything has to be compiled in one mode, and all of the libraries that you use must also be in that mode.  You can't mix COFF and ELF object files.
