PCB Simulator Model Issue

In the high-speed PCB layout design, we would like to do the PCB simulation first before doing the PCB fabrication in order to avoid any signal integrity issue on the PCB layout.

Each PCB fabrication is costly and time consuming. We want our PCB layout in error free.

(The signal integrity issue might due to the impedance not-match, trace clearance not enough to avoid crosstalk, signal trace length too long, etc……)

The PCB simulation software that we used is called Hyperlynx (v 7.7) from Mentor.

To simulate the actual situation of the PCB circuit, the software hyperlynx would use the circuit model of ICs. (Commonly, they would use the IBIS file as the circuit model).

It’s why I download the IBIS model of the TMS320C66x from the web page.

I found that the TI’s IBIS model is in 5.0 IBIS format.

But the Hyperlynx (v 7.7) can only accept up to IBIS 4.1 format.

Therefore, I want to know whether TI can convert its IBIS 5.0 format to IBIS 4.0 or IBIS 4.1 for us.

  • After the ratification of IBIS v5 in 2008 TI began developing their IO models with that standard.  This was necessary to support all of the high speed interfaces in the most recent generation of processors.  Stripping the improvements to the models to support the older standard would be difficult and, at this time, there are no plans to create an IBISv4.1 version.
