problem with DM8168 EVM HDMI output connected to other monitors

Hello,

I'm currently evaluating the DaVinci DM8168 with the dev board, I have been able to run the example provided with the EZSDK, but I can't get any video out if I connect the HDMI output to one of my other monitors. I suspect this might be due to HDCP being enabled on the link, is that a correct assumption?

If yes, is there a way to disable HDCP for my testing?

Anne,

Current HDCP is not supported via HDMI SW. Your problem is not HDCP related. It is mointor related.

Which SDK version did you use?

Does your mointor have HDMI interface, does it support CEA format? Does it support 1080P-60? what's difference between your working and non-working monitor?

I'm using the 5.2.2.60 version of the SDK.

The working monitor I have is the small one provided with the EVM. My monitor does support 1080P-60 but only has a DVI interface, I thought DVI and HDMI were compatible, is that not the case?

Hi,

HDMI is not compatible with DVI. Infact DVI output can be shown on HDMI TV since HDMI is backwards compatible with DVI. But HDMI output cant be shown on DVI, Most of the monitors support DVI and not HDMI.

Hi,

I have actually found a DVI monitor that displays the DaVinci HDMI output correctly, so it is not completely incompatible I guess. I'm still not sure why this monitor works and not the others though....

Hi,

That monitory may be supporting HDMI. Further if you are trying any VESA resolutions, then by default HDMI is outputting DVI and not HDMI.

Does that monitor have HDMI interface? what kind of resoltuion does your DVI monitor detect?

Hi,

No, this monitor doesn't have HDMI interface (only VGA, DVI and DisplayPort), it supports 1080p60 (optimal resolution). If it helps, its part number is DELL U2212HM.

It guess it is because the monitor has Display port which is compatible with HDMI

Please wait the next PSP release 04.01.00.07(it should be out soon), which support DVI display from on-chip HDMI.
