TDA4VM: Mini Display-port to HDMI broken in 9.1

Hello,

I have a board similar to the J721E evm. When I plug in an active Mini DP -> HDMI converter (from CableMatters - https://www.cablematters.com/pc-521-153-active-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adapter-4k-ready.aspx), it works on versions 8.2 and 8.6. But when I run it on 9.1, DSS fails and I can't run vision applications (see MCU2_0 logs below).

Is this fixed in later versions like 10.0 or 10.1? If not - is there some other way to fix this issue?

Hi,

There is a failure in enabling DP_PWR pin.

[MCU2_0] 14.819925 s: DSS: ERROR: Turning on DP_PWR pin for eDP adapters failed !!!

Can you please check and confirm that EthFw is enabled in the vision apps?

Hi Brijesh,

We are using ETH0 (cpsw) & ETH1 (cpsw9g) through linux, so I set `BUILD_ENABLE_ETHFW=no` in vision_apps_build_flags.

I will try enabling that and let you know what the results are. Regular display port has been functional with ethfw disabled.

Hi Stuart,

No, BUILD_ENABLE_ETHFW should be set to 'no'. This will allow configured external io mux.

Brijesh,

I took a look around to see what you were talking about. I see now there are exceptions based on whether or not ETHFW is active.

I saw in the function `appDssConfigureDP` that the ioexp configs were invalid for my system, so I went ahead and changed them ... however - that did not actually fix the issue. I have an IMX390 RCM streaming at 60FPS but I see no image on the display (display is configured for HDMI). When I switch the system over to display port, I get video output.

DP0_HPD = LOW

DP_SW_PWR = HIGH (3.3v)

What could be wrong?

Hi Stuart,

But how are you connecting mini DP? There isn't mini DP output from the EVM board. Also can you please confirm that this is active DP to HDMI convertor? Is this working earlier?

Brijesh, to answer your questions:

* Our board has a mini-dp connector.

* Yes, it is an active mini-DP to HDMI converter. It works in version 8.2 and 8.6.

* (Also for reference, mini-DP to DP works just fine in every version!)

Hi Stuart,

So since this is on your board, do you also have external io expander to control the LDO, just like EVM? How is this controlled? Using some i2c based io expander?

Can you also try with the patch that i shared on below link and see if it helps?

Thank you Brijesh - this is what I was hoping for.

Unfortunately this patch didn't work (I didn't spend too much time debugging it though), but based on the issue tracker it looks like it should be resolved in future versions. I think it might be easiest to move over to version 10.1 and debug it there if the problem persists.
