AM62A7: More ways to reduce the Power in AM62A7

Can you please explain how you are measuring power? How is this power isolated just to the AM62A SoC? Once I understand this, we can discuss some potential optimizations.

We're directly measuring power consumption using the power supply that feeds the AM62A. We've disconnected all peripherals to isolate the SoC's power.

For some further optimizations, we can disable some of the unused clocks with the K3Conf Linux command line tool. For peripherals not in use, those clocks can be slowed down/disabled.

CPUFreq can be used to slow down the A53 cores speeds but it would be at the cost of performance.

In the default Linux SDK device tree, it will have as many peripherals enabled as possible, so make sure that all these unused peripherals have 'status = "disabled"' or completely removed.

In terms of Pinmuxing, the GPIO state is the lowest power state which could help on the IO power consumption.

Hi Anshu,

we had already reduced clocks of PLL's also we reduced the Clocks using k3conf commands for your information. As far as I know clock reduces power only in active state if we go inside sleep it don't have any effect and tested it. If there are any clock which make impact also in sleep mode please tell me i will try to implement that also.

And also what is the least power consumption we could get from the processor in sleep mode also tell me that so that will be our ideal mark.

Hi Harsh,

From the AM62A SoC side in Deep Sleep, the core power will be around 17mW and the LPDDR power will be around 6mW since its in self refresh. There will be power consumed from IO Rails.

For unused I/Os, you can put them in a GPIO Muxmode which is the lowest power consumption muxmode.

There is no document for this. Just to keep expectations realistic, there won't be a significant power reduction doing this. It will be on the scale of 2-3mW of the I/O power. There are two options:

1. Define the GPIO state in the pinmux of the Linux device tree. You can use the Sysconfig tool to help with this: https://dev.ti.com/sysconfig/#/config/?args=--device%20AM62Ax%20--package%20AMB

2. Change the PADCONFIG registers directly by reading the register and changing the muxmode to 7. Review section 14.2.1.2 Pad Configuration Registers in the AM62A TRM: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruj16b/spruj16b.pdf
