TMS320C667x Gigabit Ethernet with IEEE1588 support

Hello,

we are planning to use the same ethernet transceiver chip as used on the TI Shannon C6678 development board which is a Marvell 88E1111. I would like to know if this configuration fullfill the IEEE1588 ? I could see that the C667x DSP is 1588 compliant, but I cannot find anything on the Marvell side.

Thx

  • The internal Ethernet switch in the C6678 has a module that supports a limited implementation of IEEE1588.  Because the module resides in the Ethernet switch we do not require a PHY which supports IEEE1588 so the Marvell 88E1111 is sufficient for our purposes.  Although there are other PHYs that support the protocol I don't think you need one in this instance.

  • Thx Bill for yor quick respond.

I think it is missing one key feature that I could not find.   That is the ability to generate a hardware event ( set one of the DSPs GPIOs) on a timer match. I did not thoroughly  read it, but it appears to miss the feature.   Read section 2.3.5.2 and the events that can be generated.   I even looked for a timestamp match to generate an interrupt.   This would work, but would introduce latency into the trigger.   I did not see that either.

    Thx,
