DM3730: Can the AM3715 and DM3730 boot using an eMMC v5.1

I have several existing designs that use either a DM3730 or AM3715. The processor uses an eMMC v4.41 to boot. These eMMC devices are becoming obsolete.

Can the DM2715 boot using an eMMC v5.1 device?

V5.1 should be backwards compatible. It would be prudent to check with the vendor of the device you plan to use to confirm that they do support backward compatibility. You should also validate this for yourself, perhaps using an eMMC adapter module.

We will need an adaptor to ground the extra Vss pins, or change the PCB.

What about the extra pin called "data strobe"? Is this pin a "don't care" to the processor, since we won't be using the new capabilities of eMMC 5.1. We plan leaving it as a NC.

Data strobe appears only to be used in HS400 mode, which is not supported by the DM3730. You can leave unconnected unless instructed to do something different by the eMMC datasheet.
