TDA4AL-Q1: [IPC] how to enable IPC between MCU R5F(freertos) and A72 Linux

Part Number: TDA4AL-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI-export

I would like to use enable IPC between MCU1_0 FreeRTOS and A73 LINUX.

i can use following command under default MCU1_0 FW ti-dm-fw under A73 LINUX

rpmsg_char_simple -r 0 -n 2 -p 14

However, I can not use ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos  to do the same test.

What should i use ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos or ipc_rtos_echo_test_freertos?

What does the difference  ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos and ipc_rtos_echo_test_freertos

I am use Linux R5 SPL , will it cause this issue like following link?

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1406740/tda4vm-issue-while-loading-the-ipc_rtos_echo_test-with-tispl-bin/5415365?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=ipc_rtos_echo_test#5415365

Thank you very much

This is a sample application with linux on A72 and ipc_echo_test on R5F.

If you change ipc_echo_test then this application might not work.

    What should i use ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos or ipc_rtos_echo_test_freertos?

You have to use ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos  for MCU R5F because in SPL mode only BTCM will be enabled by default . so the ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos has the reset vectors at BTCM location.

whereas ipc_rtos_echo_test_freertos has reset vectors in ATCM location which is not enabled by default for MCU R5F in SPL.

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

I use ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos but the A72 log have following error.

    How to fixed it?

    Thank you very much

  • Hello,

May i know what steps you followed to add in ti-dm ?

    Regards

    Tarun Mukesh

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

    i prebuild the ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos at pdk_j721s2_10_01_00_25\packages\ti

    copy pdk_j721s2_10_01_00_25\packages\ti\binary\ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos\bin\j721s2_evm\ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f to yocto-build\sources\meta-ti\meta-ti-bsp\recipes-bsp\ti-dm-fw

and replease the origin ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f file

Rebuild the tispl.bin file by build all image under yocto SW

    Do i miss any steps

    Thank you

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

    Do you have any update?

    Thank you very much

  • Hello,

and replease the origin ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f file

Did you use the same name  ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f for ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos executable ?

You build the ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos executable but replace the name as "ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f" then REBUILD the tispl.bin ,since tispl is looking for the name of ipc_echo_testb

    RegardS

    TARUN MUKESH

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

Yes, i use the same name.

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

The origin fw name is ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f

and i rename it to ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f

  • Hello Daniel,

One more point to add here,

This example "ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f" only communicates with R5 cores running RTOS. If you see the example in PDK RTOS, It echoes back messages from other RTOS cores.

rpmsg_char_simple command cannot work with ipc_rtos_echo_testb_freertos_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f application executable.

In your case you are running A72 with linux , so you need to use ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f  only (This is same example as above but for linux)

    Regards

    Tarun Mukesh

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh,

The ipc_echo_testb_mcu1_0_release_strip.xer5f seem the prebuild image under yocto codebase.

I would like to have a mcu1_0 fw (builded by our) that can use ipc to communicates with   A72 with rpmsg_char_simple.

Do you have any comment about this request?

    Thank you very much

  • Hello Daniel,

I understood your request but the ipc_echo_test example we have in PDK we did the same way and linked so that rpmsg_char_simple will work.

May be you can build the same example ipc_echo_test in PDK and attach as you did similar way for ipc_rtos_echo_test. ipc_rtos_echo_test doesn't communicate with A72 running linux.

If you are interested to build MCAL directory other than PDK then we have cdd_ipc example based on MCU1_0 communicates with A72 running linux.

  • Dear Tarun Mukesh

    Thank you.

I can let MCU do echo test with A72 Linux if i use ipc_echo_test of my build.

I had try the cdd_ipc mcuss demo example

However, it seem not run after SPL mode.

Does it cause by ATCM mode?

I had try both  mcal example cddipc and can profile

How to run mcuss demo under SPL mode?

    Thank you very much

  • Hello,

    Thank you.

I can let MCU do echo test with A72 Linux if i use ipc_echo_test of my build.

    Thats great!!

I had try the cdd_ipc mcuss demo example

No i am not saying about CDD IPC In MCUSS demos

    Please follow the below link

    https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-rtos-jacinto7/latest/exports/docs/mcusw/mcal_drv/docs/drv_docs/ug_cdd_ipc_top.html#:~:text=Build%20MCAL%20example%20application%20for%20Linux%20communication

This application you rename to ipc_echo_test and do the build steps you followed above, this application communicates with A72 running linux and works fine for prmsg_char_simple test as well.

    Regards
