AM6412: If PCIe refclk support LP-HCSL?

Part Number: AM6412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMKDB1102

Tool/software:

Hi,

AM6412 PCIe controller is Gen2 but it compliant with the electrical parameters specified in PCI Express® Base Specification Revision 4.0.

Could you please confirm if AM6412 PCIe clock support LP-HCSL input?

Regards,

Wei

  • Hi Wei,

what electrical parameters are you saying as not compliant and please describe more your schematic configuration.  It sounds like you are using a separate PCIe clock source that is an 100Mhz LP-HCSL driver as input into the AM6412.  Does you configuration have 50 ohm external terminations on each differential clock leg?

  • Hi James,

I prefer to use LMKDB1102 to generate PCIe refclk(LP-HCSL) for AM6412 and another PCIe device but the description on AM6412 datasheet make me confused.

AM6412 has gen2 controller which should not support LP-HCSL but it is compliant with the electrical parameters specified in PCI Express® Base
Specification Revision 4.0 which gen4 should support LP-HCSL.

LP-HCSL and HCSL are not fully compatible.

Could you please help me to confirm if AM6412 PCIe refclk support LP-HCSL clock or not?

    Regards,

    Wei

  • if a clock driver is necessary for you then it should be HCSL.   I want to point out that AM6412 silicon Rev2 will support sourcing PCIe refclk

    Regards,

    James

  • Hi James,

    That's great.

I double checked the Errata and found this issue(i2236) is not an issue anymore on silicon rev2.

    Thanks a lot.

    Regards,

    Wei
