[FAQ] SK-AM62A-LP: Is USB OTG possible without PD controller?

Hi,

For my application, I don't need PD controller for power negotiation. But in SK-AM62A-LP design, PD controller is also used for role detection. Is there any way to avoid PD and directly implement role detection on AM62A processor? or with small circuitory?

AM62P support dual role using any of the SOC IOs.

I have checked SK-AM62P-LP's schematic and Linux device tree. It is handled same to that of SK-AM62A-LP.

My question is that,
If I remove PD controller, USB role detection is possible with any other mechanism?

You can use any of the IO to implement the dual role.

Hi Sathiya,

You need to route

- both CC pins from the type-C connector to a single GPIO pin of AM62Ax;

- both VBUS pins from the type-C connector to the VBUS output of the VBUS power switch;

- the DP/DM pins on both sides of the type-C connector to the DP/DM pins of AM62Ax.
