AM6411: USB3.1 Loop back

Hi,

We have a product based on USB 3.1 and in test mode we need to test the USB3.1 interface using loop back functionality. To implement this feature, we are planning to use the AM6411 processor.

Is there a reference design including HW EVM's and supporting software to demonstrate the USB3.1 loop back functionality?

Hello I Jesuraj,

USB 3.0 mode is not supported via current MCU+SDK offering. Please refer USB_DEVICE_DRIVER to see all features that are supported v/s non supported.

The documentation on what USB version is supported in which AM64x SDK can be confusing.

While the Cadence cdns3 USB drivers claim support to USB 3.1 . we know the MCU+SDK only supports USB v 2.0 and the Linux SDK supports USB 3.0 in host mode only.

I have raised this issue more than a few times to (+) Kathryn Kalouf's Profile - Kathryn Kalouf - TI E2E support forums, and (+) Bin Liu's Profile - Bin Liu - TI E2E support forums .

Maybe we need a FAQ on this point?

The MCU+SDK documentation clearly calls out that only USB 2.0 device mode is supported with R5F core. While the AM64x Academy docs specifies the AM64x has a dual-role USB controller. The USB module works in host mode when the USB ID pin is grounded, or in device mode (also called peripheral mode) when the USB ID pin is floating.

Can you recommend a different processor from different family in which the SDK supports USB3.1 device mode (Linux is OK)?

Also let us know if there is some simple reference design to support USB3.1 loop back?

There are several processors supporting super-speed in USB host mode, but I am not aware of any of them supporting super-speed in USB device mode.
