AM335x Power Solution (DDR3)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65910A

Hi,

We would like to use TPS65910A as a Power Managment IC for AM335x,

and also we are using DDR3 memory.

But this wiki says TPS65910A doesn't support DDR3 1.5 V,

whereas "TPS65910A User's Guide For AM335x Processors"  Figure 1 mentions

VIO connected to VDDS_DD has volatge levels "1.5/1.8/2.5/3.3v".

What could be the reason that TPS65910A doesn't support DDR3?

Regards.

  • The VIO default voltage is 1.8 V on power up and the voltage is the out of DDR3 voltage spec. Therefore it can't support DDR3 even though the VIO voltage is programmable from the software. The alternate solution for TPS65910A + DDR3 would be to use a LDO to output 1.5 V from 1.8 V VIO.  There is also a plan for a different version of TPS65910A which has the default VIO voltage as 1.5 V to support DDR3.  We'll update the information in the wiki once the plan is finalized.

  • Thank you so much for the Info and the solution.

Please let me know if there is any updates.

    Regards.
