AM3352: Update on Sitara Device/Family longevity?

Part Number: AM3352
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM62L, TMDS62LEVM

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm evaluating AM3352 for an industrial application. It appears as active, but given it is already 13 years old we wanted to verify if production will continue at least for other 10 years from now. Any reference to where we can check the plans for the Sitara family or alternatives would be useful too.

Thank you,

Fiorella

  • Hi Fiorella, there is currently no plans to End of Life AM335x for the foreseeable future. Please feel free to continue to use it, however if you would like to check out our current generation arm processors, i recommend AM62x or AM62L.

  • Hi Mahir,

Thanks for the reply and recommendations.

We'd like to go with single cores, AM6231 or AM62L31, and have some additional questions:

    - When does the production of AM6231 started?

AM62L31 is not yet available to order, not even with preview notice. Evaluation board includes XAM62L32 which is dual core, and according to the nomenclature "Experimental device that is not necessarily representative of the final device's electrical specifications".

    - Is there any approximate release date or timeline for production version of AM62L31?

    - Is there any risk of the AM62L31 version never getting to production?

    - I guess disabling a core should be an option to evaluate our application, but would it still be recommended to use the eval board regardless of having a different and not yet released MPU?

    - Are there any plans of releasing an evaluation product for AM62L31 in the near future?

    - Is there anywhere I can find more details about precautions or recommendations for working with pre-production devices?

    Thank you,

    Fiorella

  • Hi Fiorella,

Glad to see you had a chance to check out the AM62L! The device is currently in preproduction, so the silicon is the "X" AM62L units which represent preproduction. These are just dual core but you can disable the core. There is no risk of the AM62L31 going to production, the current plan is 3Q25 for production date. Please use TMDS62LEVM for testing and development. AM62L31 will be released at production, there will be no TI.com preproduction units of that, as you can just disable one core.

I would recommend checking out the AM62L Errata so you know of the planned bug fixes from pre-production to production.
