DRA821U: Direct connection to SFP ?

Tool/software:

I am using the DRA821 and would like to know if I can use the SGMII interface for a DIRECT connection to a SFP.

I would want to connect the DRA821 SGMII  TX/RX differential pairs wired directly to the SFP cage connector.

I have not found any reference designs NOR documentation that details if this is possible.

I need to support both 1000Base-X and (1G) SGMII.

    Hi Steve,

    I do not think you can directly connect the SERDES diff pairs to the SFP without using the SGMII Ethernet PHY; I would also talk to my colleague on the same and get back to you.

    My understanding is the SFP is the network PHY.  We have not tested with any SFP module, and I am not aware of its electrical characteristics for the SERDES inputs of the SFP.  On our EVMs, we do use network PHYs on adapter boards - so similar configuration of SERDES signals traveling through board-to-board connector to PHY.
