AM6442: Changing mac address with uEnv.txt

Hi Ti Expert,

I have a problem changing the cpsw port mac address in our custom board. We have three ports, 1 cpsw and 2 icssg. The 2 icssg ports take the addresses specified in uEnv file but the cpsw port stick to the ti address.

The boot log show that error : Importing environment from mmc1 ...
## Error: Can't overwrite "ethaddr"

himport_r: can't insert "ethaddr=*********" into hash table. How can resolve this problem ?

Hi Serigne,

What Linux SDK version are you using?

Please note that there is always one Ethernet port that will have its MAC address obtained via the the MAC_ID register, which is efused on the SoC. Please see https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1319082/faq-where-do-the-mac-addresses-for-am62x-and-am64x-come-from-how-do-i-change-the-mac-addresses for more information. It may be a possibility that the CPSW port cannot use the MAC address you specified in uEnv file because it is the efused MAC address port.

If you really need to change the MAC address on the efused MAC address port, it might be worth checking the links in https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1506945/am62l-processor-sdk-etherent-mac-address-fusing/5793640?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=%2525252520user%252525253A576780#5793640 to see if the instructions can help.

Hi i'm using Linux SDK 10.01.10.04.

I resolved the problem by adding CONFIG_ENV_OVERWRITE to the config file before building u-boot, because it's says in a README file of the sdk that ethaddr is in read only.
