Hi expert,

Our customer is referring to EVM to design their own SCH. Below is the circuit for DPI to HDMI conversion which uses DATA0-DATA15. Our customer want to use only DATA0-DATA15 for display and use DATA16-DATA23 for other application. They would like to know if there is any other hardware and software modification that is needed to support that. Thanks.

But what is the output format from DSS on Data lines D0 to D15? Are they planning to still use RGB format?

Hi Brijesh,

Customer doesn‘t have specific requirement for the format. They use DPI for backup display. So they only need it can display normally thru HDMI.

Hi Xingyu,

not sur which HDMI encoder can support data over 16bit, but Yes, DSS can output over 16bit interface.

Thanks for your reply. We checked the HDMI encoder, and find it cannot support RGB565. We support BT.656 and BT.1120, right?

And BT.656 uses bit0-9, BT1120 uses bit0-19?

Hi Xingyu,

Yes, that's correct. If HDMI encoder can support BT656 or BT1120, it can output on D0-9 or on D0-19 data lines respectively.

But if encoder requires separate sync signals, the output format would be RGB and then D0-7 or D0-15 or D0-23 data lines would be used..

Hi Brijesh,

Thanks for your confirmation. So for BT656/BT1120, we don't need the external sync signal, which means HS/DE/VS is not used. Is my understanding correct?
