DM8148 EVM PSP

I have an DM8148 EVM, i want to begin  development and am in the process of  downloading  the PSP from here:

http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/psp/LinuxPSP/DM814x_04_01/04_01_00_05/index_FDS.html

However I do not have a pure Linux development system, I will be using VMware Player to create a Ubuntu 11.10 environment for the Linux OS running on the ARM.  Do you see any issues in doing this and do you have any recommendations for the development environment?

  • DerekG,

I don't see any issues with that but I would recommend you start with the DM8148 EZSDK here:

    Regards,

  • Viet,

Thank you for the fast reply.

I assume the EZSDK is a cut down version of the tools, will i be able to do everything i need to do with that version?

Can you give me more details about the difference between the EZSDK the the PSP?

  • Just wanted to bump this thread, as  I'm also bit confused about the intentions of these.

Is it the case that the EZSDK is more intended for platform evaluation, where as the PSP will provide a bit more long-term support?  Given that I don't see any means of easily customizing/regenerating the rootfs in the EZSDK, I assume the way to move from evaluation to product development is fetching the PSPs and building a custom image via Arago? (arago-project.org)

Based on this thread, http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/717/t/147901.aspx#535832, I see that the PSP and EZSDK seem to differ in terms of memory maps and HDVICP/HDVPSS firmware (and loaders) , but am not really sure why this is the case and what's different between their respective M3 firmware files.

Are there, or will there be, any guides on migrating from the tools/drivers provided with the EZSDKs to those in the PSP releases?  While I'm aware of the DM814X/AM387 PSP User Guide, bringing everything together into a custom rootfs image (kernel, modules, scripts) seems to be out of the scope of that guide.  If Arago is the way to go, any chance someone could write up a quick How-To guide on getting up and running with the latest and greatest DM814X PSP releases?

Thank you for your time and help!
