BEAGLEBOARD-X15: Difference Between BeagleBoard-X15 and TDA2x – Can Vision SDK Run on BeagleBoard-X15?

Part Number: BEAGLEBOARD-X15
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728, AM5729

Tool/software:

Hi,

I’m working on an radar based embedded project and I’ve noticed that the BeagleBoard-X15 and TDA2x SoCs seem to share a similar architecture. From what I understand, both platforms are based on the TI AM57x family (dual Cortex-A15 + DSP + possibly EVE on TDA2x), and both support high-performance multimedia and vision applications.

I have the following questions:

  1. What are the key architectural or hardware differences between the TDA2x SoC and the SoC used in BeagleBoard-X15 (AM5728)?

  2. Since they are architecturally similar, can the TI Vision SDK (initially developed for TDA2x) be ported and run on the BeagleBoard-X15?

  3. If it’s possible to use Vision SDK on BeagleBoard-X15(am5729):

    • What components need modification or porting?

    • Are there any known limitations or missing features (e.g., EVE processors)?

    • Is there any reference guide or project someone has already done for this?

My use case involves real-time video capture and analytics, so leveraging the DSPs and potential vision accelerators would be ideal.

Any guidance, links, or documentation would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

  • Hello Tamilselvan,

These boards can differ a lot depending on the versions that you are referring to. They are very similar and could likely be made to work.

There is a separate SDK for AM57x as you probably already know. The TI Vision SDK has not been supported for a long time and was never tested or ported over to AM57x.

The only guidance will be the existing documentation for TDA2x.

They are both from the same architecture with some differences that can be found upon review the respective TRM's/Datasheets.

    Best,

    Josue
