StarterWare and PRUSS at same time in Beaglebone (AM335X).

Hello!

I´m facing to an application that needs a precise and fast ADC capture, and a web server at same time. I was wondering about the possiblity of use a PRU to manage the ADC, and then use StarterWare for the ARM core. This arrangement is supported?, or would be better to go to linux?

Regards, Alfredo.

  • Alfredo,

What do you mean exactly by "precise" ?

EDMA + McASP will do the capture part without involving the processor at all.

  • I wanted to mean that the samplig times were not influenced by the OS in the ARM subsystem. Your solution looks great for audio signals (McASP is intended for that), buy in my aplication y have also to capture digital signals. Is there a way to capture this kind of signal with McASP and McASP? Or may be better to go to a FPGA solution attached to the GPMC? Finally, are there code examples and drivers for these devices ( EDMA, McASP, and GPMC)?

    Best Regards, Alfredo.

  • By digital signals, do you mean that you have digital inputs connected to GPIO inputs that you need to sample ?

What sample rate are you thinking of ?

  • I would like to sample digital Input signals synchronized with the analog ones, and a solution may be to use a PFGA to caputre the digital Input signals and to act as a interface with a parallel ADC and then packet al the information for comunicate with the board through McASP I2S. Anoter option is the GPMC port. What do you think?

  • You could also send the word clock from the ADC in to a GPIO and have the GPIO trigger an EDMA read of the port that has the digital signals on it.

  • Great idea! I will think about it. The only drawback is that I am interested in using the AD7606 ADC, wich has not I2S interface. That ADC simplifies a lot the analog design but his interface options are parallel and SPI.
