AM62P: Using MCU's communication interface and WKUP's communication interface at the same time

Part Number: AM62P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SK-AM62, SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Hi,

After reading the MCU+SDK tutorial, I found that the MCU-side program can be compiled, programmed, and debugged using CCS. However, the WKUP-side program is compiled by CCS and is flashed through a flash script.  I would like to ask, if I need to use the MCU's UART and the WKUP's UART in a single program, how can I compile, flash, and debug the program? Or is it recommended to place the MCU-side interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI) in one program and the WKUP-side interfaces in another?

BR,

Bomiao

  • Hi Fan,

Please read through the following FAQ(see section of SK-AM62): https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1276094/faq-sk-am62-purpose-of-different-uarts

Apart from this, when you choose multiple UARTs from lets suppose more than one domain in one application, it should not be a problem.

Lets suppose, you have 2 UARTs configured and then one UART is for TX and RX operations with external peripheral while the another UART which you configured is for the debugging purpose, or you could say simply for logging purpose.

In this case, you could simply explore the SysConfig tool of the application which you are using.

Inside SysConfig tool, simply head to the section under "TI DRIVER PORTING LAYER" named "Debug Log":

Here you have to specify which UART port you need to set for logging purpose and the other UARTs can be used for their respective needs.

I hope I clarified your doubt.

This would apply to other modules like I2C, SPI, OSPI, QSPI, FLASH and so on.

Let me know if you have any other pending question.

    Vaibhav

  • Hi,

Referring to this link(AM62Px MCU+ SDK: Developing applications on Device Manager/Wake-up R5 core), I think if you want to use WKUP peripherals (UART, I2C, MCSPI) in the program, you cannot load the program through CCS and it should be loaded via flash scripts. My question is I have one program which uses MCU_UART and WKUP_UART, can I load the program through CCS. If so, which core I should connect before loading the program.

Or this program should be loaded via flash scripts, does this means this program is put in the FLASH rather than SRAM?

  • I attach my UART config below.

  • Hi Fabio,

Please allow me sometime to answer your open queries.

I got your question and I will clarify in a while on how to go about building applications and when to load via CCS and when to flash via scripts.

  • Hi Vaibhav,

    Any update from you?

  • I found that the MCU-side program can be compiled, programmed, and debugged using CCS. However, the WKUP-side program is compiled by CCS and is flashed through a flash script

    This understanding is correct.

But the following is not a correct understanding.

Or is it recommended to place the MCU-side interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI) in one program and the WKUP-side interfaces in another?

While configuring a specific peripheral of that same domain makes more sense as the latency would be good compared to another domain peripheral, still you can have lets suppose an MCU Domain peripheral configured in a WKUP Application. The first point highlighted above applies to flashing the WKUP application as a whole and is not dependent on the peripheral used inside the application.

    Hope this clarifies.

  • Hi Vaibhav,

My question background is I want to use a MCU_UART and a WKUP_UART in one program. I want to know whether this program could be loaded through CCS or through flashing scripts. If this program could be loaded through CCS, which core(R5-MCU or R5-WKUP) I should connect when I using CCS.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your patience.

My question background is I want to use a MCU_UART and a WKUP_UART in one program. I want to know whether this program could be loaded through CCS or through flashing scripts. If this program could be loaded through CCS, which core(R5-MCU or R5-WKUP) I should connect when I using CCS.

Your program/one application can have both the instances of UART as you have described.

If your program is not the one which is ending with wkup-r5fss0-0_freertos, then you can load it directly onto the CCS cores.

Else if it is ending with wkup-r5fss0-0_freertos, then you would need to flash through scripts.
