OMAP-L138: Inquiries about OMAP-L138

Part Number: OMAP-L138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6748

Tool/software:

Hi, TI expert

We have a question from a customer about OMAP-L138.

The customer is considering changing from DSP(TMS320C6748) to OMAP-L138.

There may be a current limiting issue depending on the project, so we have the following questions.

1) Can the ARM block be turned off in OMAP-L138?

2) When turned off, can the power consumption be the same as the existing DSP(TMS320C6748)?

Please check. Thank you.

  • 1) Can the ARM block be turned off in OMAP-L138?

According to the TRM, Table 9-1. PSC0 Default Module Configuration, the Arm is on LPSC 14 which is an "Always On" power domain.  However, the Arm default state is "SwRstDisable" so there will be no activity.

    2) When turned off, can the power consumption be the same as the existing DSP(TMS320C6748)?

Since the Arm cannot be powered-off, but can be held in reset, less power will be used.   However, I cannot compare the power consumption the C6748.  Best suggestion is take a look at the application note OMAP-L138 Power Consumption Summary which can be used to estimate power consumption.
