We have a question regarding the management of Power Domains by SciServer running on mcu1_0.

At a main domain R5F core is dedicated to a real-time communication application, which uses the CPSW1 device with ID 62

In the main domain, the R5F core is dedicated to a real-time communication application that uses the CPSW1 device with ID 62
When we cyclically stop and start the main domain firmware using remoteproc, the shutdown process occasionally fails.

We were able to trace the issue back to the SciServer (Enabled the sciserver tracer)

    What I have noticed about is, if everything is working the corresponding new LPSC looks this

  • Hi,

    In the main domain, the R5F core is dedicated to a real-time communication application that uses the CPSW1 device with ID 62
    When we cyclically stop and start the main domain firmware using remoteproc, the shutdown process occasionally fails.

    I understood that you are performing a remote core reset  (stop firmware) using remoteproc, which will try to turn off the R5F Core.

    In the failure scenario I could see, it is blocking due to CPSW1, i.e., failure to power off CPSW1. It can happen that CPSW is not in the idle state.

    I believe you are using CPSW1 (Main CPSW2G) from the Main R5F0_1 core.

    Thank you very much for your support. Yes we are using the CPSW2G switch on the MAIN_Cortex_R5_0_1 (mcu2_1).
    The graceful shutdown error of mcu2_1 typically occurs when the remote station has already been shut down.

    , failure to power off CPSW1. It can happen that CPSW is not in the idle state.

    You have written that this could happens if the CPSW2G is not in the idle state.

    - Is there any typical procedure available to handle the unexpected disconnection form a peer to the CPSW2G connection loss in combination of a graceful shutdown (rproc stop) of the mcu2_1?

        (Maybe something to flush or disable the currently active DMA channels?)

    - Are any CPSW2G status register available which reflects the current operation mode ?

    I believe there's a misunderstanding between bit positions and actual values. The  "MDSTAT_STATE_*" macros represent specific bit patterns corresponding to various states. However, the code compares the entire state variable directly to these macros, rather than isolating and comparing only bits 0 through 5. This could result in incorrect comparisons.

    , failure to power off CPSW1. It can happen that CPSW is not in the idle state.

    You have written that this could happens if the CPSW2G is not in the idle state.

    - Is there any typical procedure available to handle the unexpected disconnection form a peer to the CPSW2G connection loss in combination of a graceful shutdown (rproc stop) of the mcu2_1?

    No, as you are issuing a Power OFF to the core.
    Before the initiation of the Core OFF request, can you check if CPSW is in the IDLE state or not?
    CPSW_PN_MAC_STATUS_REG_k.IDLE to indicate whether the MAC Port is in IDLE state or not?

    Before this, can you please check the CPSW Module status using the Sci-client API (Sciclient_pmGetModuleState) whenever you are observing failure for graceful shutdown. This is to confirm whether CPSW is shut down successfully or not, as we are suspecting CPSW in the above case.

    I believe the above are not bitfields, direct values of PSC_MDSTAT.status.
    If the above are bit fields and SW assumes direct values, all requests to enable/disable the Module would have failed.

    I have a doubt here, how are you getting the state as 0x0a? 
    Can you please check if there is any correction of the stack or any?

    I tried to reproduce the power domain issue and using a Lauterbach JTAG debugger to monitor it.
    I set a conditional breakpoint that triggers when the lpsc status register is read with the value 0xA by the CPU (mcu_1_0).




    According to the code in the Sciserver, the status register can take the following values (see definitions below). However, the value 0xA is neither defined in the code nor documented

    The "module state" value other than below is an intermediate transition state.


    While initiating the module OFF request for any, ensure interrupts and respective clocks are disabled before the module OFF request, so the module is in the IDLE state.

    It depends on the module's state and dependencies to reach the OFF state.
    DM core will initiate a reset to the module and check the state.

    We need to take care in the application, freeing it of interrupts and dependencies before issuing the module reset.

        Is it necessary to clear any pending interrupts or ISRs before initiating the module OFF request?

    Yes, to ensure no dependencies to turn off the module.
    It will be similar to the shutdown sequence in Linux kernel drivers. 

    Are there any best practices or safeguards we should follow to avoid issues during the transition?

    Ensure all dependencies are freed before issuing the module OFF request to DM.
