AM62L: internal RTC use cases

Dear champs,

what are the uses cases that would need an internal RTC. One is e.g.: Suspend) which is requiring the internal RTC, as it does not take the external RTC into account.

Are there other scenarios that explicitly require the internal RTC?Could you please list those.

Hello,

Every time Linux shuts down and boots back up (and even during some lower power modes if I remember correctly), Linux does not know what time it is. So if the software running on Linux needs to know the time, then every time it starts up Linux needs to get that time from somewhere.

One common way is for Linux to get the current time over Ethernet. So maybe a smart thermostat could use this approach.

An RTC is another source of the time.

Like you said, the RTC can be set as a wakeup source during low power modes.

It seems like there are other reasons that you use RTCs, like Digital Rights management. The TRM chapter Peripherals > Timer modules > RTC discusses more.
