TMS320VC5509A: or TMS320VC5517 series

Part Number: TMS320VC5509A

Tool/software:

Regarding the TMS320VC5509AZHH or TMS320VC5517 DSPs and would like to inquire about the available options for securing the JTAG interface on these devices.

  • Is there a way to secure the JTAG pins on these DSPs to prevent unauthorized access?
  • Can the JTAG interface be disabled via software registers or any configuration settings?
  • Do these devices support a JTAGLOCK feature or any similar mechanism to restrict or lock JTAG access?
  • Are there any recommended methods or external hardware solutions (such as supporting ICs or circuitry) that can be used to secure the JTAG interface effectively?

Any guidance or documentation you could provide on best practices for securing the JTAG interface would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Dhinu,

The JTAG has to be blocked/disabled by the ROM code. With current ROM code, none of the C55xx devices can block/disable the JTAG. The only device we ever made which blocks the JTAG is C5535S (secure version of C5535). It is no longer available. One thing I can think of is do not connect to JTAG interface physically on your custom board. Since the JTAG balls are hiding underneath the DSP. They are hard to tap to.

    Best regards,

    Ming
