AM62L: I2Cn - series resistors required?

Part Number: AM62L

Tool/software:

I received some information from a schematic review by TI regarding I2C0 and I2C1: "Note the I2C exceptions. Add series resistor to control the fall time".

There are no series resistors in the AM62L reference design on I2C0 and I2C1, but there are 49R9 resistors and a100pF capacitors on I2C2. What is the reason for the resistors and when should they be used and when can they be disregarded?

  • Hello Simon,

For some reason the AM62L thread you created got assigned to invalid org

I2C0 and I2C1 are emulated open drain output type buffer I2C interface.

Please read through the Exceptions in the SOC data sheet.

The series resistor provision is to control the fall time and is recommended any time the IO is configured as I2C. The pulls are recommended to be connected with shortest stub.

This is likely to affect the attached device that would see a faster fall time.
