Hi TI Team,

We are currently custom designing a Automotive DMS using AM62A34 processor.

We have the following queries regarding the power supply configuration for the AM62A34:

AM62A34 EVK power current management:

The EVK reference schematic shows the PD controller output current as 2483.17 mA, which is insufficient to directly power the AM62A34 processor, since the processor requires up to 6.7A (6.5A for VCC_CORE and 0.2A for VDDR_CORE) according to the AM62A34 datasheet, how did increase that current using BUCK REG (3.3V) LM5141-Q1.In the reference schematic, the BUCK REG (3.3V) LM5141-Q1 shows an input current is 2133.913 mA and an output current is 8729.64 mA.
Could you please provide the design guidelines?

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out. The power block diagram in the EVM design files just show estimated current consumption. We do not typically compare input to output current on specific ICs but instead compare input to output power. The output current of the DCDC regulator is higher but the voltage is lower.

Yes, I Know input & output power DC-DC converter is different we couldn't compare it but in TI SoC AM62A34 having Quad core which is taking large current 6.5 A as per datasheet. Please let me clear, is the SoC continuous current is 6.5A or it is just bootup current?

How to manage losses of LM5141-Q1 ?

Where does the "6.5A" come from? Are you measuring this current on a prototype board?

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying! Yes, 6.5A is the max VDD_CORE current for AM62A under a specific configuration (i.e VDD_CORE=0.75, quad core, 1250MHz, etc). These max current ratings are specified under worst case conditions like max temperature and process corner. If you design for worst case conditions, then it would result in 4.875W (0.75V*6.5A) power required for the CORE. If you have any design questions for the pre-regulator, we recommend submitting a separate E2E under LM5141-Q1. This device is a Buck controller and the max current ratings could vary based on the selected external MOSFET.
