starterware graphics messed up

I can successfully run the pre-built starterware examples. When I try to build them and run the ones I built, the graphics are messed up. The example I am mainly interested in is the usb-dev-msc. It shows the blue bars at the top and bottom with the white text, but the middle of the screen is just mostly white random gibberish. More importantly, Windows doesn't even see the external usb drive when I plug the device into my PC.

I have tried these compilers:

IAR

gcc from code sourcery

CCS with CGT (the application doesn't even startup)

I am using the am1808 eval board from logic PD and the sfh_OMAP-L138.exe flashing tool.

Any ideas on what I am missing?

We tried to recreate the problem, but we couldnt...Can you give more details,

1. have you made any change to the code

2. do you mean with IAR and GCC you are getting the same behaviour

3. what version of GCC are you using

4. which USB port on the board are you connecting to PC

1. I have not made any changes to the code.

2. Yes, I am seeing the same problem with GCC and IAR

3. code sourcery 4.6.1

4. the mini usb - It is the one that worked in the pre-built binaries.

when you tried the prebuilt executable have you tried debug version or release version.?

I tried both the debug and the release version of the pre-built in gcc. Both of them work as expected.

I tried both the debug and release of the the cgt prebuilt. Neither of them work.

When I try to build my own using gcc, I did have to to change makedefs to point to 4.6.1 rather than the default 4.3.3. Here is the resulting screen:

In AM1808 USB examples will not work with CGT as unaligned access is not supported.

But they should work with GCC and IAR. Lets concentrate on GCC first. we have not tested with gcc version 4.3.3. The recommended gcc tool chain is code sourcery. For information on tools please refer http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/StarterWare_Getting_Started_02.00.XX.XX#Host_platform_Requirements. Can you try with the tools mentioned the link.

Thanks Baskaran. I tried compiling with the 4.3.3 that was linked from wiki as suggested, and the usb_dev_msc example worked! Previously, I had downloaded the code sourcery gcc directly from the mentor graphics website.

My preference is IAR workbench, but I will work with whatever as long as I can debug. Can Code Composer Studio debug applications that were built with gcc?

Yes Samuel. CCS can debug the applications built with GCC.

Regarding IAR, are you using the same version as given in the host platform req (link given n the previous post).

I am using IAR 6.30 and the linked wiki suggests 6.10 which doesn't seem to be readily available on the IAR website. I will have to contact them for the older version.

Also, I am using the starterware 1.00.02.02 for am1808 devices which doesn't include the IAR project files. I put together my own projects, and so it is possible something is not correct. I can just work with gcc/ccs for now.
