DRA829J: Why is DRA829J classified as Real-time control and TDA4VM classified as Signal processing and edge AI?

Part Number: DRA829J
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VM, , DRA829

Tool/software:

Hi,
As far as I can see, the only difference between the DRA829J and the TDA4VM is the presence of the VPAC and DMPAC modules in the TDA4VM. If that's the only difference, why is the DRA829J classified under real-time control, while the TDA4VM is categorized under signal processing and edge AI? Is there something I’m not aware of that makes the DRA829J stand out in the field of real-time control?

  • Hello,

You are correct to note the primary difference being the presence of the VPAC and DMPAC in the TD4VM. Additionally, the DRA829 is excluding DSPs, MMA, GPU, and the Video Encoder/Decoder IP. To simply put it, the TDA4VM has more capabilities that make it more robust device as opposed to the DRA829J. This description from the DRA829J Datasheet explains why the device stands out in the field of real-time controllers and gateway usecases:

You can also find a full comparison list in their respective datasheets on Table 4-1. Device Comparison:
