TMS320C5517: Query: Reading 8 Microphones Using TMS320C5517 EVM with PCM1864CMBEVM (TIDA-01454B)

Dear TI Support Team,

I am using the following setup to read microphone data:

  • Processor Board: TMS320C5517 EVM

  • Audio Front-End: PCM1864CMBEVM (TIDA-01454B)

  • Demo Used: BF_rt_bios from C:\ti\c55_lp\c55_csl_3.08.01\demos\audio-preprocessing\c5517

  • Mic Input: 6 microphones currently interfaced

  • Reference: TI video and documentation — Voice Processing Tools Software Slides

Currently, I am successfully reading 6 microphone channels via the I2S interface. I would like to extend this to read 8 microphone channels.

My queries are:

  1. Is it possible to capture all 8 microphone channels from the PCM1864CMBEVM using the TMS320C5517 EVM?

  2. If yes:

    • What hardware or jumper changes are required?

    • What modifications are needed in the existing BF_rt_bios demo (e.g., DMA buffer settings, McASP/I2S configuration)?

    • Is there a way to use the internal ADC peripheral to read additional channels?

  3. If not directly possible:

    • Can you recommend any method to achieve 8 mic input using this setup (e.g., cascading devices or alternate signal routing)?
