PROCESSOR-SDK-AM68A: Custom AM68A Board – Integrating 3 Cameras via V3Link and Expansion Connector Options

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM68A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM68A, SK-AM68

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

I'm designing a custom board based on the AM68A reference design. The original board supports only two camera connectors, but I need to integrate three cameras for my application.

For testing, I successfully connected the third camera using an Arducam V3Link board. Now I want to integrate all three cameras directly into my custom board.

I have a few questions regarding connector options:

  1. Can I use a 40-pin expansion connector to directly connect the third camera? If yes, what signals and pin configuration should I consider to ensure compatibility with the AM68A CSI-2 interface and V3Link setup?

  2. Alternatively, can I integrate one of the Arducam V3Link connectors directly into my custom board? Are there any reference schematics or guidelines available for this?

  3. What are the best practices for routing CSI-2 signals and FPD-Link III connections on a custom board to support three cameras reliably?

  • 1.  Are your referring to the 40p Expansion header on the SK-AM68 design?  No - that connector likely does not have the bandwidth to support CSI2 signal rates.  But yes - a connector (designed for high speed) can be used.  Example is included on the SK-AM68 design.

    2. Yes - FPD-Link solution can be supported with your custom board.  See example design with is used with some Jacinto Processor boards:  Link

    3. See application note for routing high speed signals Link
