AM6442: Am6442 OSPI boot

Dear TI Support Team,

We are currently working with the AM6442 processor on a TMDSAM6442 EVM. We have successfully verified boot functionality using XSPI, and the system boots and runs our application without any issues.

However, we are encountering a problem when attempting to boot using OSPI. The key observations are:

OSPI flash has been connected as per the AM6442 hardware guidelines.
Boot mode pins are correctly set to enable OSPI boot.
The boot image has been written to the OSPI flash using the appropriate flash writer tools.
The image offset aligns with the bootloader requirements.
OSPI clock and power domains have been configured correctly.
No UART output is observed during OSPI boot, suggesting the ROM code might not be initiating the boot sequence.

We would like to understand:

Are there any known limitations or errata related to OSPI boot on the AM6442?
Are there any additional device configurations, eFuses, or settings needed to enable OSPI boot?
Can you provide a working reference or example setup that demonstrates successful OSPI boot for AM6442?

Please let us know if any logs, schematics, or additional technical details are required from our end to assist in debugging this issue.

Hi Ganesh, I am resending this thread to the proper expert please allow him some time to come back to you. In the meantime, see below questions/comments I have

- Are you using MCU+SDK flashing tools and scripts? AM64x MCU+ SDK: Flash a Hello World example using DFU

- If so, what is anything being printed in UART? or nothing there?

As for examples maybe you can try AM64x MCU+ SDK: SBL OSPI.

For debugging you can also add a while(1) loop, build it in debug mode, flash it, then connect it with JTAG+CCS, load the symbols and see if you reach that point.

Hi,

If the flash you are using is S28HS512T, or a custom flash, then you would need to make sure the flash supports commands as written in the description of the OSPI bootmode.

You see the OSPI bootmode has the following description in TRM:

Now the flash needs to support the the following command format in order to boot from OSPI bootmode:

Firstly the flash should be supporting the 1S-1S-8S protocol
0x8B command should be mentioned in the flash datasheet: command should be 8 bits
Address should be 24 bits, meaning the flash should be in 3 byte addressing mode. FYI, some flashes operate in 3 byte or 4 byte addressing modes depending on the protocol, but 4 byte addressing should not be a concern here as 3 byte addressing that is 24 bits are required.
