Yes, PCM1754 does need an external system clock (SCK) for proper operation. A GPIO pin will not work for this since it won't be able to provide the required high frequency low-jitter clock.

Getting the external clock from AM62P to the PCM1754 introduces added complexity, since the external clock output is not well-suited for standard audio frequencies.

Have you considered using the TAD5212-Q1 DAC? It's a newer, automotive-rated DAC that doesn't require an SCK input, has better performance, and simplifies clocking with built-in PLL. Swapping the PCM1754 with the TAD5212-Q1 is the optimal solution.

The pins you highlighted cannot generate the standard audio clock frequencies. The AM62x does not include an audio PLL, so you would need an external PLL for those frequencies, adding complexity.

The optimal solution is to use the newer TAD5212-Q1 to avoid these workarounds.
