PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X: AM64x GP EVM not booting even after renaming tiboot3.bin file

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are using prebuilt image from "ti-processor-sdk-linux-am64xx-evm-11.01.05.03" which is "tisdk-default-image-am64xx-evm.rootfs.tar.xz".

SD card is created using create_sdcard.sh and we are keeping the boot mode switches as specified in "AM64x EVM Quick Start Guide".

When we power on the device we are seeing following prints in the console. We are using Sandisk Ultra 16 gb SD card.

We have tried flashing the SD card using Balena etcher and the "tisdk-default-image-am64xx-evm-11.01.05.03.rootfs.wic.xz" and We always observing flash failure.

Following is the error reported when using prebuilt image from SDK flashed using create_sdcard.sh:

  • Hi Mohan,

Could you try with different SD cards to check if it's an issue with this SD card?

    Regards,
    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

    Thanks for the reply.

After couple of retries with different SD cards we were able to move forward but again ran into different issue.

And the kernel was stuck here. We tried reflashing and changing the kernel image and we were unable to get out of this error.

Please let us know if there are any known changes which are around this.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Mohan,

Thanks for sharing the update. I'm looping in an expert. Please allow him some time to get back to you with a response.

    Regards,
    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

Please note that HS EVM boots perfectly. We are facing issue only with GP EVM that to REV1 with latest SDK even after changing the tiboot3.bin.

    Regards,

    Mohan.

  • Hello,

The GP EVMs are not supported and tested anymore. Is there a reason you are still using the GP EVM?

  • Hi Prashant,

We have procured one GP EVM couple of years back to get familiar to AM64x and using it for a while and now we are testing Linux on it.

Any SDK version you suggest where it was supported?

    Regards,

    Mohan.

  • Any SDK version you suggest where it was supported?

I will have to check. However, if you are just using the EVM for development or testing then you should be able to use the latest SDK by reducing the SD card speed as one of the workarounds mentioned in the following guide:

    https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/AM64X/11_01_05_03/exports/docs/linux/Foundational_Components/Kernel/Kernel_Drivers/Storage/MMC-SD.html#steps-for-working-around-sd-card-issues-in-linux

Try "sdhci-caps-mask = <0x00000007 0x00000000>" for SD HS mode in the Kernel DTS.

  • Hi Prashant,

Thanks for the help. We will check and get back to you in this forum.

    Regards,

    Mohan.
