TDA4VEN-Q1: The serial port suddenly has no output.

Part Number: TDA4VEN-Q1

Tool/software:

HI:

Problem Background:
While verifying functionality on the development board, I updated a new version of the firmware image and booted it using an SD card. However, the serial port produced no output. I checked whether the serial port was properly recognized and confirmed that the computer detected it. Additionally, the serial port LED on the development board was lit.

To rule out any issues with the firmware image, I flashed back the previous working version, but there was still no output. I also eliminated cable issues by testing the original power and serial cables on another development board—with the same prepared SD card image—and the serial output worked normally.

  • Hi Qxn ,

Is there any hardware differences between the development board where it was working and not working?

If not we can confirm that it is a board issue.

    Regards

    Gokul

  • Hi:

There is no hardware difference, and only the SD card is updated during each debugging session—the hardware environment remains unchanged.

  • Check the dip switches - maybe got bumped and changed position.  I would reset each dip switch to ensure the correct bootmode is set. (Sometimes they look correct but are not - I recommended resetting each switch)

Its also possible the SD card connector was damaged.  The 'fingers' on the connector can sometimes get bent.  You can use a fine tip point (small screw driver or other) and press each finger inward toward the PCB (without card installed). If any of the pins slightly bent, this should help re-align.

Its also possible the board was damaged in some other way - ESD event or other, causing the EVM to no longer function.
