AM625: Processor selection

Part Number: AM625
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728,

Tool/software:

HI

We are planning to use AM625x in our design. We require the below interfaces:

2 ethernet interface,1 EtherCAT interface,2 CAN,4 RS232,2 SSI interface, uSD,e mmc,USB,1 channel ADC(0-10VDC),2 channels DAC(0-10V)

. Our client had suggested AM5728. I would like to know if AM625x would be a better choice when compared to AM5728.Please let us know.

  • Hey Prema,

Thank you for your inquiry. From feature requirement perspective both these devices meet all the requirements minus the integrated ADC/DAC, you will need an external solution for that requirement. Also, the EtherCAT for both devices work a bit differently. The AM625 supports EtherCAT on chip as a controller/Master. The AM57 supports EtherCat as a Slave/peripheral if using TI RTOS.

The AM625 is a much newer processor lower power/lower cost. I would direct more in this direction than AM57.

    Kind regards,

    Payam
