AM620-Q1: AM6204BTGFHIALWRQ1

Part Number: AM620-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are using the AM620-Q1 EVM reference schematic in our design. In this schematic, there is a net named “VBUS_TYPEC2” which is generated by the TPS65988DHRSHR (USB PD controller).

In our design, we are not using the TPS65988DHRSHR. However, the VBUS_TYPEC2 net is still required to power the USB-C Type connector (host mode).

Could you please confirm which voltage level should be supplied on this net, so that we can provide it externally (for example, using an LDO or another regulator)?

  • Hello Surender Sharma,

    Thank you for the query.

Let me assign the query to the expert.

  • We are going to need to know more information on how your product is planning to use this USB port on AM62x.  For example, will the port be operating as USB host or device?

The USB Type-C connector supports a lot of capabilities.  What capabilities are you planning to support with your USB Type-C implementation?

    Regards,
    Paul

  • Hi,

We use this to connect a pendrive or flash the board.

  • I'm not familiar with the term "pendrive". It appears you are saying, you plan to connect a USB storage class device (USB memory stick or pendrive), where the AM62x device operates as the USB host and your product provides power the USB storage class device.

Is booting from a USB storage class device the only function you plan to implement on the USB port?

AM62x also supports booting from a PC, where the AM62x device operates as the USB device. Are you also planning to support this boot mode?

    Regards,
    Paul

  • Currently, we do not plan to boot through this USB, but in the future we may need to.
    Please suggest both options:

    1. Without booting through this USB

    2. With booting through this USB

  • You didn't answer my questions.

I get the impression you may not understand the various functions support by a USB Type-C port. Therefore, I suggest you read the USB specifications related to implementing a system with a USB Type-C connector, decide which functions you plan to support in your product, and design an USB Type-C implementation that supports these functions. You will need to understand the industry standard expectations for providing power to the USB Type-C if you plan to remove the USB PD Controller since it provides capabilities that you will need to implement with discrete circuits if removed from your design.

I can answer any questions you have related to AM62x USB functions, but I'm not able to design your USB Type-C implementation. This is the system designer's responsibility.

  • Hi Peaves,

I understand your earlier response. If my question is not fully clear, please connect me with the system design team.

Also, the TPS65988DHRSHR is marked as NRND and its cost is quite high.

We are using this in booting process also.

We want to provide a fixed voltage supply to this USB. In that case, which functionalities will be supported, and what voltage does this IC require?

  • Hi Peaves,

    Please response,

We are using this in booting process through this USB.

We want to provide a fixed voltage supply to this USB. Please suggest voltage rating.

    Thanks
