BeagleboardXM - No USB keyboard, mouse on Gingerbread

Hi,

I have the BeagleboardXM RevC and I am having trouble getting USB mouse and keyboard to work. Tried the pre-built images and also built my own using the devkit. A colleague of mine also tried it on a different BeagleboardXM using pre-built and custom built images with the same results. I am connecting the USB keyboard and mouse to the on-board USB host and the board is powered using a 5V/3A power supply.

Attached is the console output for reference and the patches I applied trying to get the kernel built.

Thanks,

  • Hi Aniruddh,

Please connect external power hub and try again.

You can check keyboard and mouse events using getevent command.

        $ getevent

  • Hi Aniruddh,

From the boot log you have provided, I understand that you are trying to run 2.6.32 kernel on BeagleBoard XM revision C.

Some additional patches are required for this version kernel to run on BeagleBoard XMC. I have attached the same. 7183.0001-DVI-color-and-USB-fix.txt

Our latest DevKit fully supports BeagleBoard XM C on kernel 2.6.37. You can download it from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Android_GingerBread_2_3_4_DevKit_2_1/index_FDS.html

  • Hi Arun,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately that patch failed to apply. Looking at the patch contents I see that there are several functions in it which are missing in my base file from the DevKt. So I guess another intermediate patch might be needed. I found this patch which seems to be much similar to yours but also adds the missing functions. 8446.USBKeyboardPatch-ebe1e26476768b8edde0607433e564ffd4b0e903.patch.txt

I had tried this patch earlier but it did not work. Please let me know if this patch is ok or it needs any changes.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Which is the devkit you are trying to use?

If you take BeagleBoard XM package from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Android_GingerBread_2_3_4_DevKit_2_1/index_FDS.html , then it will work without fail on BeagleBoard XM C.

The sources are also provided in the same page.

I have provided the patch for 2.6.32 kernel since I thought you were working on rowboat 2.6.32 kernel base. Please try out the latest release on your board.

  • Hi Arun,

That worked. But now I am having problem with video playback. The video plays fine but its size is not correct. I am using the following bootargs

    setenv bootargs 'console=ttyO2,115200n8 androidboot.console=ttyO2 mem=256M omap-dss.def_disp=dvi omapfb.mode=dvi:1600x1024MR-16@60 omapfb.video_mode=1600x1024MR-16@60 omapfb.mode=dvi:1280x720MR-16@60 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootdelay=1 init=/init ip=off omap_vout.vid1_static_vrfb_alloc=y vram=32M omapfb.vram=0:16M mpurate=1000'

I am trying to play this video http://ia600406.us.archive.org/31/items/ElephantsDream/ed_hd_512kb.mp4. The size of the video is not the same as screen resolution. Please see the image below.

Also attached here is the complete boot log and output from logcat. 8726.teraterm.log

  • Hi Aniruddh,

Edit hardware/ti/omap3/liboverlay/overlay.cpp file and change LCD_WIDTH and LCD_HEIGHT macros for desired resolution. By doing this video should get played in full screen.

Let us know if you face any issue.

    Pankaj Bharadiya

  • Hi Pankaj,

One last thing. My display dosen't look very crisp despite having set the resolution. Do I need to do something additional? My boot args are as follows

    setenv bootargs 'console=ttyO2,115200n8 androidboot.console=ttyO2 mem=256M omap-dss.def_disp=dvi omapfb.mode=dvi:1600x1024MR-16@60 omapfb.video_mode=1600x1024MR-16@60 omapfb.mode=dvi:1280x720MR-16@60 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootdelay=1 init=/init ip=off omap_vout.vid1_static_vrfb_alloc=y vram=32M omapfb.vram=0:16M mpurate=1000'

    Thanks,

    Aniruddh
