AM69: Should pins/balls that don't need mandatory pull-down/up be left floating?

Part Number: AM69

Tool/software:

Should pins/balls that don't need mandatory pull-down/up be left floating?

Can I connect them directly to VSS?

Pins that I'm in concern about:

* AK5, AL8, AK9, AN3 etc.

  • Section 6.4 Pin Connectivity Requirements of the data manual includes information on how to connect pins if unused.  Also the Table 6-1 Pin Attributes provide additional pin information.

    Regarding AK5, the pin attributes table shows the pin has configurable internal pull-up/pull-down resistor.  Typically it is not recommended to connect these IO directly to GND.  This is because if the pin gets configured for use and drives its IO, connecting to GND could cause over-current condition and damage the IO.  In this case - it is recommend to configure the internal PD resistor to keep pin from floating.

  • Thank you! According to SK-AM69 EVL board.

    These pins are floating:

    But according to the datasheet of AM69A.

    These create a question if there is something wrong in the datasheet because these are voltage monitors. They should be floating.

  • The recommendation is to follow the data manual (can use a single resistor to pull all to GND).  These are not CMOS inputs, so the potential for damage if pin is floating is much less significant.  Regardless - I do recommend following DM guidance.
