AM623: Will LVDS work to interface with ADC

Part Number: AM623

Tool/software:

All,

Out of curiosity will the Video LVDS port work to interface with an ADC such as the ADS9223?

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Blake

  • Hi Blake,
Can you please elaborate on the usecase? What purpose do you intend to solve with ADC connected in front of LVDS?

Does your query pertain to software level or hardware level of interfacing?

DSS in AM62x will keep transmitting data onto OLDI lanes and its driver does not need to check what connected in front of it.

Hardware wise, it shouldn't depend on AM62x and I may transfer your request to the ADC team for further queries.

  • Hi Mittal,

So we want to interface an AM623 running Linux with an  LVDS ADC and get a high speed data stream back from the ADC and into the DDR4 or SRAM of the AM623.  The application is in the marine electronics arena (see hidden field notes).  Since Linux is not real time, we may elect to have the R5F or M4F manage the ADC data flow (if possible) so that we don't miss any packets.  Barring that we will likely use DMA if possible to get every sample.  We will sample at approximately 2M data rates.  We understand there is likely no driver in place to talk over LVDS, but it sounds like you don't see the LVDS link in and of itself being a blocker to making this application work.

  • Hi Blake,
Software wise, I do not see any issue. Hardware wise, please check that ADC is terminating the LVDS differential lanes with 100Ohm resistance at its input since that is what is what will set the DC voltage levels.
