AM3517 Memory Interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3517

Hi All

I am using AM3517 in a Tablet design.

I want to interface a NAND flash, but most NAND flash with 1-bit ecc are obsolete. Hence this option does not seem feasible to me.

i tried to look for e-MMC devices, All of them are on version 4.41 and AM3517 has mmc version 4.2.

I have confirmed from various vendors of e-MMC version 4.41 is NOT backward compatible to 4.2.

and Now, i have no clue What is the easiest flash interface to use with AM3517.

Please help me with your valuable suggestions.

Thanks in advance!!

  • Kshitij,

There's another thread on this forum - "AM3517 - eMMC Flash Boot Mode".  You will find the following information there:

You should be able to boot from the v4.41 device, you just will not be able to use the added features for 4.41.

When the memory manufacturers say "NOT backward compatible", they mean that you can't use v4.41 "mode" to operate a 4.2 device.  However, 4.41 memory devices can still be operated as if they are 4.2 devices.
