Using USB- and other Serial-Communication by App with Gingerbread-Dev-Kit?

Hi all.

In the Gingerbread-Dev-Kit USB-Host functionality and UART are supported. But does this mean you can use these interfaces also in Android-applications?

How does this work? Is there an API ported together with the drivers? Can I use Java-APIs like jUSB in my Android-app? Or have I port an C-library with the JDK by myself?

Hi Christian,

In Gingerbread-Dev-Kit USB-Host and UART functionality are supported from driver side. You will have to add library and JNI interface to access these interfaces through application.

Have a look at following android-serialport-api project.

Hi Pankaj,

thanks again for your fast reply, this is very helpful, but only seems to deal with UART-Interfaces.

Is there an similar project which provides an API for USB-Communication (Android-Device(USB-Host) to USB-Device)??

Hi Vishveshwar,

I think you missunderstood, the Android-Device should be the Host!

As I understood the Accessory mode don't deal with standard-USB-devices, so it won't help here...

But if I'm wrong, just correct me...

Hi all,

sorry for doubleposting,but have another unanswerd question for this Topic...

Does anybody know if it is possible to port Java-APIs like jUSB or JSR80 to android?

If it works, is it enough to include the jar-files to my Androidproject or am I in need to adapt the source-code?
