Minimizing the space between the DM368 and its DDR memory

Hello,

I am trying to make a board with the DaVinci DM368 chip on it as small as possible.

I noticed that the DDR traces from the memory IC to the main DM368 processor are taking some space and I would like to optimize that.

So I am currently using Terminator Resistor as well as controlled line length.

My question are:

1) Can we replace the Terminator Resistor by controlling the impedance of the trace? My PBC manufacturer has the ability of "impedance control" and that would be great to use because it does not require components (such as Resistors) and can be compact.

2) Can I remove the Terminator Resistor? Will it affect reliability, noise, etc. Especially for a circuit that will be manufactured in High Volume.

I wish we could use PoP memory with the DaVinci!

Thanks,

Mike
