J784S4XEVM: product seal was broken and appeared to have been repackaged

Good day. I am posting this inquiry on behalf of the customer.

We recently purchased and received the J784S4XG01EVM board from TI.com. 

During our engineering team’s inspection, we found that the product seal was broken and appeared to have been repackaged. In addition, a strong unpleasant odor was detected from inside the box, raising concerns that the product may be used or defective.

For your review, we have attached relevant photos.

  • TI does not accept EVM returns for repair.  We ship only new EVMs - we do not ship any 'returned EVMs'.  The ESD tape looks intact from the pictures, so it does not appear the bag was opened since manufacturing.  Note all EVMs are fully tested a manufacturing prior to shipment, so I fully expect the EVM to be fully functional.

  • We kindly ask you to recheck the attached photo. The seal appears to have been cut and covered with transparent tape. If testing was indeed conducted prior to shipment, it is difficult to understand the strong odor present. It has been three weeks since the item was received, yet we are still unable to use it. We would appreciate your prompt response regarding this matter.

  • Why are you unable to use the EVM?  As stated, all EVMs are tested prior to shipment, so I expect EVM to be fully functional. Also as previously mentioned, we do NOT accept returned EVMs and thus we do not ship repaired/refurbished EVM.  All EVMs are shipped NEW.  While I do not see any cut in the ESD label (I see partial cut in last photo) - that info is not critical base on all info I previously provided.  TI ships ONLY NEW EVMs.
