C6xtest question about method of memory copying

Guru 10685 points

What is the underlying method that is used to pass data between the DSP and the ARM in the C6xtest demo that uses the VLPB component? Does it use EDMA to copy blocks of memory for instance or does it use shared memory between the DSP and ARM, thus saving time and effort in doing a memory copy between the ARM-owned memory and DSP-owned memory?

Thanks,

Ralph

  • Ralph,

It uses shared regions for data buffers.  So, there will not be any copy of the application buffer to the DSP side buffer. OMX abstracts the virtual address requirement of Linux (A8) and physical address required at the DSP. Please note: VLPB by functionality copies the input port buffer to the output port buffer.
