AM62L: AM62L Power Consumption

Part Number: AM62L
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS62LEVM,

Hi MPU team, our customer is evaluating our AM62L for an application where standby power  consumption is critical. They are using our TMDS62LEVM .

Here is feedback from our customer measurements, can you review and advise if this is what they should be seeing or if we believe there are knobs to turn to improve power consumption:

******

I have manually tested the voltage drop of sense resistors by DMM and calculated the consumption. One confusion is the “VCC_3V3_MAIN” power consumption is much higher than expected.

When the EVM is running at deep sleep mode (Suspend to RAM), I measured 1.09mV at R559(5mohm). The total power of the “VCC_3V3_MAIN” rail will be ((1.09mV/5mohm)*3.3V)=0.72W, which is too big to get compliance approve for charger product. The “VCC_3V3_MAIN” have distributed to multiple peripherals and hard to isolated one by one on board. Can you please help take a look at this point and advise?

Thank you.

  • Hi,

The 3.3V pre-regulator (VCC_3V3_MAIN) is not included in the SoC power analysis because this rails supplies multiple external ICs beyond the SoC. Here are some of the power resources TI provides to assist with the power consumption analysis:

Just for reference, to reduce the PMIC power dissipation during deep sleeep you could change the PMIC DCDCs switching mode from "forced-PWM" to "auto-PFM". This can be done by executing one of the following two options:

    • option#1: changing the MODE/STBY pin config to "MODE only". Additionally the AM62L PMCTRL register would need to be updated to pull the PMIC_LPM_EN0 signal low when entering DeepSleep.
    • option#2: changing the MODE/STBY pin config to "STBY only" and changing the DCDC switching mode to auto-PFM by I2C before entering AM62L DeepSleep.

    Thanks,

    Brenda
